The Architect ______

Lane Sloan

Build a business that can thrive without you.

Lane Sloan has spent more than five decades helping organizations create sustainable growth, develop strong leaders, and build enduring enterprise value. His perspective combines the discipline of a global corporate executive, the rigor of an educator, and the practical judgment of an investor, board member, and advisor to privately held companies.

Lane earned an undergraduate degree in marketing and management and graduate degrees in quantitative management science, accounting, and finance. He then built a distinguished career spanning nearly 30 years with Shell Oil Company. During that time, he held senior executive roles that included Chief Financial Officer, President of Shell Chemical Company in the United States, and leadership responsibility for Royal Dutch Shell

Within the Academy, Lane helps owners strengthen strategic planning, develop leadership depth, reduce owner dependence, and build an organization capable of performing well into the future.

The Owner Who Did IT ______

Brett Binkley

Learn from someone who built, sold, transitioned, and moved successfully into the next chapter.

Brett Binkley brings the perspective every business owner wants access to: he has personally completed the journey. He helped build an exceptional company, created substantial enterprise value, completed a successful strategic sale, remained to support the post-acquisition transition, and ultimately stepped away from executive leadership on his own terms.

Over more than three decades, Brett helped transform Binkley & Barfield into a leading infrastructure consulting firm. As CEO, he guided the company through sustained growth by developing a capable leadership team, strengthening the organization, preserving a high-performance culture, and building a business that could succeed beyond any one individual.

Those decisions positioned the company to attract a sophisticated strategic buyer and complete a successful acquisition by DCCM.

Following the transaction, Brett remained with DCCM and served in executive leadership, helping guide integration, continued growth, and the next stage of the organization’s development. He has since retired from that CEO role.

Today, Brett helps other owners understand the personal decisions, leadership transitions, emotional pressures, and identity questions that accompany the sale of a business built over decades.

Brett helps owners understand what buyers truly value, why culture and leadership depth matter, how disciplined decisions shape transaction outcomes, and how to prepare for a meaningful life beyond the business.
